Toy Story 5

Toy Story 5 Release Date, Trailer, Cast, Plot and Everything We Know

It looks like Woody, Buzz and the gang are gearing up for another adventure as Disney and Pixar have officially announced that Toy Story 5 is in development. After wrapping up the story of Andy and his toys in Toy Story 4 in 2019, fans have been speculating about whether we would see the toys again on the big screen.

Now Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that a fifth Toy Story movie is in the works at Pixar. While details are still scarce, here is everything we know so far about Toy Story 5.

Toy Story 5 Release Date

Disney has revealed that they are aiming for a 2026 release date for Toy Story 5. With Pixar’s schedule often changing, this date could slip but 2026 seems like a realistic target given the development time these films require. If all goes to plan, we should see Toy Story 5 hit theatres in the summer of 2026.

Toy Story 5 Trailer

As the film is still early in development, a trailer for Toy Story 5 is a long way off. Given Pixar’s track record, we likely won’t get a first look at footage from the film until late 2025 at the earliest. Fans will just have to be patient!

Toy Story 5 Cast

While nothing has been officially confirmed, it is almost certain that Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will return to voice Woody and Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 5. In an interview, Allen said that he and Hanks have both been contacted about reprising their roles.

We can also expect the rest of the main toy gang like Jessie, Rex, Hamm and Slinky Dog to return. Unfortunately, the late Don Rickles who voiced Mr Potato Head cannot return.

Toy Story 5 Plot

As with the trailer and cast, plot details are still under wraps. In an interview, Tim Allen suggested one idea could be reuniting the toys with their original owner Andy, now grown up with kids of his own. “What if the whole story was through Andy as an adult? He has children, and they just happen to be online, and the kid goes, ‘Have you ever seen this toy?” Allen pitched. While this may not end up being the plot, reconnecting with Andy does seem like a fitting way to wrap up the story.

Toy Story 5 Production

No director or screenwriters have been announced for this movie yet. Josh Cooley, who directed Toy Story 4, has moved on to other projects so a new director will take the reins. Original Toy Story scribe Andrew Stanton wrote the most recent film so he may return. Pixar typically keeps their projects tightly under wraps so we may not know production details until late in development.

What Can Fans Expect From Toy Story 5?

As the first four Toy Story movies have been spectacular successes both critically and commercially, fans have high expectations for the fifth instalment. Pixar boss Pete Docter has teased that Toy Story 5 will include “some really cool stuff that you haven’t seen before” so it seems new adventures and locations could be in store. Whatever the plot, fans are hoping for another emotional, heartwarming and beautifully animated chapter in Woody and Buzz’s story.

While it’s still very early days for Toy Story 5, the mere announcement that it’s coming has excited fans all over again. Getting to see our favourite toys one more time will be well worth the wait, especially if Pixar can deliver another film that does justice to the beloved franchise. In the meantime, Toy Story fans will just have to patiently look out for more details in the coming years as Toy Story 5 slowly comes together. To infinity and beyond!
