Super Mario Movie 2

Super Mario Movie 2 Release Date, Trailer, Cast, Plot and Everything We Know

It has been announced that a sequel to the hugely successful 2023 film “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is in development. Titled “The Super Mario Movie 2”, the upcoming animated movie has already received an official release date of April 3, 2026 from Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment. While few plot details are known, fans are excited to return to the Mushroom Kingdom for more adventures with Mario and his friends.

The Super Mario Movie 2 Release Date

As mentioned, Super Mario Movie 2 will be released in theaters on April 3, 2026. This gives Nintendo, Illumination and Universal Pictures over two and a half years to complete production on the sequel.

The first “Super Mario Movie” was a runaway success, grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide. With that kind of box office return, it is no surprise that a follow-up was fast-tracked into development. Fans will have to wait until 2026 for their return to the Mushroom Kingdom however.

The Super Mario Movie 2 Trailer

With the movie still years away from release, no trailer for The Super Mario Movie 2 exists yet. Production is only just beginning on the animated sequel. Fans hope that a teaser trailer or first look will be released at end of 2024 to build hype.

The Super Mario Movie 2 Cast

Much of the original movie’s beloved voice cast is expected to return for Super Mario Movie 2. This includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as the hilariously villainous Bowser. Keegan-Michael Key is also likely back as the fun-loving Toad.

New characters may be added that expand upon the already huge cast of characters from the games. Possibilities include the antagonists Wario and Waluigi, the dinosaur Yoshi, or even Rosalina from the galaxy portions of the games. Cameos from elsewhere in the Nintendo universe are also possible fun additions.

The Super Mario Movie 2 Plot

While plot details are non-existent at this early stage, the 2023 film offers some hints as to where Super Mario Movie 2 may go. Post-credits scenes hinted that Bowser’s role may continue as he is shrunken and imprisoned. Additionally, a lone Yoshi egg is left behind in the real world setting up his introduction.

Some speculate Mario and friends could journey through new worlds like the lush grasslands or space setting of the galaxy games. Bowser’s Koopa Troop may seek a rematch after their defeat. Wherever the adventure leads, more Mushroom Kingdom action and hijinks are sure to ensue with the Mario cast.

The Super Mario Movie 2 Production

In his announcement of Super Mario Movie 2, franchise creator Shigeru Miyamoto stated that animation on the sequel has begun in collaboration with Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment. This suggests the established creative team will be returning, including directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.

Chris Meledandri will also continue as producer through his Illumination studio, the animation house behind the wildly successful “Super Mario Movie” in 2023. With this talented team of creators behind it, fans can hope for another animated treat when Mario returns to theaters in April 2026.

What Can Fans Expect from The Super Mario Movie 2?

Judging from the joyous critical and box office response to the first “Super Mario Movie”, fans can expect more of the heart and hilarity that made it such a beloved adaptation of the iconic Nintendo franchise when “Super Mario Movie 2” arrives.

The love and care shown for the source material by Illumination will continue to enchant audiences young and old. With the existing cast sure to further own their roles and the potential for new worlds, characters and adventures, Mario mania is certain to take hold once more.

So whether it is more mushroom mayhem, new lands to explore or fresh enemies to battle, fans can eagerly await their triumphant return to the Mushroom Kingdom in April 2026.

In conclusion, though still early in development, Super Mario Movie 2 is shaping up as a hugely anticipated sequel. With the established cast and creative team returning under Nintendo and Illumination, fans have faith that Mario, Luigi and friends’ latest big screen adventure will capture the same magic as the beloved 2023 film.

While the wait until its April 3, 2026 release may seem long, knowing the plumber is poised to take Movie theaters by storm once more is exciting news for Nintendo fans worldwide. The Mushroom Kingdom’s doors have reopened – now the counting down to return can begin!
