Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty recently opened up about the struggles she faced during her time in jail in 2020. Rhea spent nearly a month in jail in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. She shared heartbreaking details about managing with limited facilities and finding positivity amidst the challenges.

Describing her first jail meal, Rhea said she was very hungry and exhausted after 14 days in solitary quarantine due to COVID-19 rules. She was asked if she would like to have lunch.

“I was so hungry and tired, I ate whatever was given to me. It was roti and capsicum, which was just capsicum in a water,” she revealed.

Coping with Toilet Facilities

When asked about managing toilet facilities in jail, Rhea said it was one of the toughest parts of being imprisoned. She admitted the facilities were not the best but added that “mental trauma is so much harder than the physical trauma starts paling in front of it.”

“You think ‘Ganda bathroom to manage kar lungi’,” she shared, indicating the resilience needed to cope.

Rhea said she found positivity by realizing that many inmates don’t have family support or bail money like her. She told herself, “You will get justice. You will get bail. You have not done anything wrong.”

Rhea Chakraborty revealed inmates could access the jail canteen and receive money orders from home. She got Rs. 5000 per month and had to budget carefully for all expenses.

She shared that the prison continued colonial-era systems of fixed meal times and early bedtime. Dinner was served at 2 pm itself.

Rhea adapted by changing her sleep cycle, finishing dinner by 2 pm, and waking up at 4 am. This allowed her to eat the dinner while it was still warm.

Rhea Chakraborty was arrested in September 2020 by the Narcotics Control Bureau during investigations into Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death in June that year.
