The immensely popular comedy-drama series Panchayat Season 3 is one of the most highly anticipated shows returning to screens in 2024. Fans have been eagerly waiting for updates ever since the second season ended on a cliffhanger in May 2022.

Recently, Amazon Prime Video whet audiences’ appetite by releasing the first look of Panchayat Season 3 starring Jitendra Kumar. Here is everything you need to know about the next installment of this fan-favorite show.

First Look Generates Excitement

On December 10, 2023, Prime Video shared two photos from the sets of Panchayat Season 3 on social media. The first picture shows Jitendra Kumar as Sachiv Ji riding a motorbike signaling his return to village life.

The second still features his Phulera comrades Bhushan, Prahlad, and Vikas sitting together. The tagline reads, “Thokar lagti hai toh dard hota hai, tabhi insaan seekh pata hai.”

The first glimpse has excited fans who have been desperately waiting for an update on their beloved show Panchayat. Kumar also posted BTS images with his co-stars from the sets earlier this year.

March 2024 Premiere on Prime Video

After months of speculation, it is now confirmed that Panchayat Season 3 will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video in March 2024.

The eight-episode second season was released in May 2022. So the gap between Season 2 and Season 3 will be around 22 months.

All episodes of Panchayat are available to watch on Prime Video which has renewed the show for a third outing owing to its success.

Jitendra Kumar Leads Ensemble Cast

Actor Jitendra Kumar will reprise his beloved character of Abhishek Tripathi aka Sachiv Ji in Panchayat Season 3. The show revolves around his journey as an engineer who becomes a Panchayat secretary in rural UP.

Neena Gupta plays Pradhan Manju Devi while Raghubir Yadav portrays her husband Brij Bhushan Dubey. Other key cast members include Chandan Singh as Vikas, Faisal Malik as Prahlad, and Sanvikaa as Rinki.

With its excellent ensemble cast, Panchayat emerged as one of the finest comedy shows on Indian OTT. Fans are thrilled to see the cast return for Season 3.

Season 2 Ended on Cliffhanger

Panchayat Season 2 ended on an emotional note with a transfer order for Sachiv Ji. The last scene shows Manju Devi reading Abhishek’s transfer letter, making viewers wonder whether he will leave Phulera.

The open-ended climax left fans yearning for a new season to resolve the cliffhanger. Now that Season 3 is confirmed, audiences are hoping it will pick up right where Season 2 left them hanging.

What to Expect from Panchayat Season 3

While the exact plot of Panchayat Season 3 is under wraps, it will likely show Abhishek balancing his ambitions with his attachment to village life.

His friendships and relationship with Rinki will be further explored along with the village politics. New developments to retain the realism around Phulera can be expected.

The essence of the show – humor and heart in equal measure – will be maintained in the third outing. Panchayat’s USP lies in its authentic depiction of rural realities garnished with laughs.

Awards Won by Previous Seasons

Both seasons of the show have received tremendous acclaim and awards. Panchayat Season 1 won Best Comedy Series at Filmfare OTT Awards 2020.

At the same event, Neena Gupta, Jitendra Kumar, and Raghubir Yadav took home trophies for their performances.

Panchayat Season 2 was honored with Best Web Series at the 53rd International Film Festival of India in 2022. Viewers are hoping Season 3 will similarly impress critics.

OTT Success Revived Jitendra Kumar’s Career

For lead actor Jitendra Kumar, the success of Panchayat on Prime Video came as a major career boost.

Despite appearing in YouTube videos and shows like Kota Factory and Permanent Roommates, he was struggling to get lead film roles. However, the popularity of Sachiv Ji made Kumar a household name.

He is now considered one of the finest actors on streaming with a prosperous future in movies as well as OTT.

Show’s Relatability Click With Audiences

One of the biggest reasons behind Panchayat’s phenomenal response is its relatability. The show presents the realities of village life in a lighthearted manner.

Urban audiences find Sachiv Ji’s adjustment struggles and culture shock in Phulera extremely identifiable. The mix of humor and sensitivity makes the series universally appealing.

Panchayat’s simplicity and heartfelt writing have touched many across demographics. The top-notch performances further elevate the already well-etched characters.

Panchayat Paved Way for Rural Stories

The show’s success opened doors for more rural stories to be told in mainstream entertainment. Panchayat highlighted small town India’s massive untapped potential.

After the show became a talking point, several OTT platforms started developing similar series revolving around village or small-town narratives.

Panchayat’s template of merging comedy with slice-of-life drama has inspired many upcoming shows. It truly revived interest in stories based in Bharat.

Season 1 Episodes Pay Ode to Shah Rukh’s Umeed

An interesting coincidence is that Panchayat Season 1 has several parallels with the 1989 TV show Umeed starring Shah Rukh Khan.

Umeed was also about a city-bred man adjusting to village life after being posted there for work. The similarities led to memes about how Sachiv Ji is a spiritual successor to Umeed.

Jitendra Kumar’s breakout performance has often been compared to a young SRK who became a star thanks to the Doordarshan show.

OTT vs Theatrical Debate

One of the major discussion points around Panchayat is whether the show would have worked as well theatrically. Most fans argue that the series is tailor-made for streaming.

Being on OTT gave creators the freedom to retain the authenticity without making it “messy” for the big screen. The comfort of digital allows the makers to keep the story raw and real.

However, a few do feel a well-made theatrical film on similar lines could also have struck a chord with people. But OTT provided more scope to flesh out stories and characters gradually.

Panchayat underscores the rise of streaming content and how digital-first stories can also resonate deeply when made well. The roaring response to the show on Prime Video is a testament to its writing and treatment.

After two highly acclaimed seasons, the expectations from the next one are sky-high. Fans are already waiting eagerly for March 2024 when they can reunite with Sachiv Ji and the adorable residents of Phulera. Panchayat Season 3 is undoubtedly among the most awaited shows this year.
