Harry Potter and The Cursed Child Speculated Cast and Story Revealed

Director Chris Columbus has expressed interest in extending the Harry Potter brand with a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child film, but the announcement of a new Harry Potter reboot TV programme implies that any on-screen adaptation of the Harry Potter play will most likely not follow the films.

Since the flash-forward epilogue of the Harry Potter film series in 2011, fans have been clamouring for additional books based in the Wizarding World. Their wishes were met with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, as well as a two-part theatrical sequel to the books, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Before the HBO Max Harry Potter TV series was announced, Chris Columbus, the director of the first two Harry Potter films, openly claimed that the only way the franchise could continue would be an adaptation of the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Following all, it’s natural for fans to desire to know what happened to the trio following the Second Wizarding War. An adaptation would most likely pique the interest of many fans who were unable to attend the live production and had to make do with reading the screenplay alone. Here’s all we know so far regarding a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child film.

Bonnie Wright Might Return in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

According to recent Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie news, at least one original film franchise actor may be willing to return. Aside from the question of whether the film would be filmed at all, there has been speculation about whether it would require an entirely new cast or if previous cast members would be ready to reprise their roles. Bonnie Wright had already stated that she would be prepared to return as long as other cast members would as well, and she went into greater depth in an interview with Michael Rosenbaum.

Rosenbaum, best known for his portrayal as Lex Luthor in Smallville, hosts a podcast called Inside of You in which he interviews other actors about their personal lives and work. When Bonnie Wright appeared on Rosenbaum’s show, he asked her about a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child film.

“It will be fun to cast in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” says Wright

Wright, like many others, is unsure whether the film will be created, although she has stated that she would be willing to participate with the understanding that her role would be minor. Wright informed Rosenbaum:

It’d be a lot of fun because it’s all about the kids. Because it isn’t about our characters, it wouldn’t be a major role. It would be all about these children and the next generation. It’d be fun, but I’m not sure if they’ll do it.

Warner Bros.’ declaration that they intend to expand the Wizarding World franchise was the most promising Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie news. Warner Bros. has been paying special attention to the wider Wizarding World and its possibilities as a result of the spectacular success of the Hogwarts Legacy computer game.

New development in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child revealed by CFO of Warner Bros.

Development on new Harry Potter projects was kept under wraps until the television show was announced, but with renewed interest in the universe of HP, it appeared quite likely that the next addition to the franchise would’ve been a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child film. Gunnar Wiedenfels, CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, stated (via Variety):

Take, for example, Harry Potter and the Wizarding World; the fact that we are having such huge success with the Hogwarts Legacy launch, 12 years after the last film, demonstrates that there is so much opportunity, and we are only just getting started. The new Harry Potter tour will begin in Tokyo in the middle of the year. To summarise, I believe that this one-company model, with strong leadership in various business divisions but integrated franchise management, is one of the company’s most significant potential.

After all, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child isn’t about the original Harry Potter characters, but about their progeny. Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the original films, recently discussed not being able to show the full scope of Ginny’s character in the Harry Potter films. Playing the character again might provide her that opportunity, but she’s right about the focus being on the next generation of Hogwarts students. If the film was made, Ginny would most likely only appear in a few scenes, as she did in the first eight films.
