Filmfare Awards 2024: Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor Win Top Acting Prizes – See Complete List of Winners

The 69th annual Filmfare Awards 2024 took place this past weekend, honoring the top talents and films in Bollywood this year. The prestigious black lady returned to Mumbai after being held in Gujarat last year, with the who’s who of the Hindi film industry walking the red carpet in their finest.

The Filmfare Awards 2024 recognized excellence across popular and technical categories. Leading the nominations was director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s crime drama Animal, starring Filmfare Awards 2024 frontrunner Ranbir Kapoor. Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt was the favorite to take home the Best Actress trophy for her role in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor Win Top Acting Honors

When the curtains fell on the Filmfare Awards 2024 ceremony, Bhatt and Kapoor emerged victorious in the top acting categories as predicted. The real-life couple have each previously won Filmfare Awards, but 2024 marked their first time winning in the same year.

Bhatt was honored with the Best Actress award for playing Rani in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, the romantic drama that reunited her with her Gully Boy co-star Ranveer Singh. The film marked a return to form for director Karan Johar after the pandemic-induced dry spell, and Bhatt’s lively performance anchored the old-school love story.

“I want to thank Karan for his faith in me to be able to pull off a role like this. You always push me to do better and this award is a testament that I’m moving in the right direction,” Bhatt said in her acceptance speech.

Kapoor took home the Best Actor trophy for his menacing turn in Animal. He portrayed the morally ambiguous character with such rawness and intensity that it left audiences stunned. Animal emerged as one of the most successful and controversial films of 2024.

“This is my third Filmfare Award but the first time I’m receiving it from someone so special,” said Kapoor, as he accepted the award from his mother Neetu Kapoor. “Thank you for always encouraging me to push boundaries as an actor.”

Animal and RRR Dominate Technical Categories

In addition to the top prizes, Animal walked away with several technical awards including Best Music Album, Best Sound Design, and Best Background Score. Meanwhile, Karan Johar’s directorial comeback Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani also picked up trophies for Best Supporting Actress (Shabana Azmi) and Best Dialogue.

S. S. Rajamouli’s RRR continued its award season sweep by taking home the Filmfare Awards 2024 for Best Action and Best VFX. Rajamouli himself wasn’t present but sent an acceptance speech thanking his “dream team” for helping him execute his grand vision.

Other major winners of the night included Vicky Kaushal for Best Supporting Actor (Dunki) and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who nabbed the Best Director and Best Film (Popular) awards for his social drama 12th Fail.

The Filmfare Awards 2024 also recognized major debuts such as Aditya Rawal, who won Best Debut (Male) for his harrowing turn in Faraaz. Meanwhile, star kid Alizeh Agnihotri bagged Best Debut (Female) for her easy screen presence in Farrey.
