Captain America 4 Release Date, Trailer, Cast, Plot, Story and Everything We Know

Captain America 4 is one of the most eagerly awaited upcoming Marvel movies. The sequel will see Anthony Mackie take over as the new Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgame. Here is everything we know so far about the release date, trailers, casting, plot, story and more for Captain America 4.

Captain America Release Date

Captain America 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. The release date has shifted a few times due to industry events, but Valentine’s Day 2025 is now locked in.

That puts Captain America 4 arriving over three years after the last instalment. But it’s a quick turnaround for Marvel Studios, especially considering the seismic shift in lead actors from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson.

Captain America 4 Trailer

With Captain America 4 still in production, an official trailer has not yet been released. The first teaser likely won’t arrive until very late 2024 at the absolute earliest.

But when marketing ramps up, expect plenty of new Captain America 4 footage and trailers to dissect for Easter eggs. The hype will be palpable for Mackie’s first solo outing as Captain America on the big screen.

Captain America 4 Movie Director

Captain America 4 will be directed by Julius Onah, best known for films like The Cloverfield Paradox and Luce. This will be Onah’s first major blockbuster film.

He faces the challenge of following up the acclaimed Captain America trilogy from Joe and Anthony Russo. But his unique vision offers an exciting new take on the Star-Spurred Avenger.

Captain America 4 Cast

In addition to Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, movie also cast includes Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Stern/Leader, Shira Haas as Sabra and Harrison Ford as President Thunderbolt Ross

There are also rumours about potential cameos and appearances from Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell’s US Agent, Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter and more. But no other Captain America 4 casting has been officially confirmed yet.

Plot of Captain America 4

Specific Captain America 4 plot details remain mostly under wraps. But the story will pick up after Sam Wilson took over the mantle of Captain America from Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame.

We’ll see Wilson come to terms with being a Black man wielding the shield, without the super soldier serum or Avengers backing that Rogers enjoyed. Captain America 4 is expected to put Mackie’s very human Cap through serious adversity.

Potential MCU connections include Tim Blake Nelson’s Leader from The Incredible Hulk and Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross. A new villain like the rumored Court of Owls could also be introduced. Whatever threat emerges, it will force Wilson to truly earn the right to be called Captain America.

How Does Captain America 4 Fit Into the MCU?

When James Gunn took over DC Studios, fans worried how this would impact the continuity of Captain America movie. But Gunn confirmed the film would be an Elseworlds story separate from the central DCU timeline. This allows Mackie’s adventure to stand alone for now.

So while Captain America movie won’t crossover with Gunn’s slate of DCU films, the multiverse could always bring the heroes together down the line. For now, the focus stays on concluding the Captain America trilogy that started in 2011.

The Future of Captain America on Display in Captain America 4

With filming now complete, this movie aims to show Anthony Mackie’s version of the hero in a whole new light. The pressure is on to deliver a worthy follow-up to the massively successful first trilogy. But the franchise is in good hands under director Julius Onah.

The window before marketing begins is an anxious one for fans. But soon the hype will reach fever pitch to see Mackie back in action as the new shield-slinger. Captain America movie has lofty expectations to live up to, but all signs point to it being a thrilling next chapter in the Captain America saga when it hits theatres on February 14, 2025.
